Gender Dysphoria

Gender dysphoria is a psychological condition in which there is a significant mismatch between an individual's experienced or expressed gender and the gender they were assigned at birth. This discrepancy can cause considerable distress or difficulties in various aspects of life, including social and occupational functioning. Individuals with gender dysphoria may feel discomfort or dissatisfaction with their physical appearance and might seek to transition to their identified gender through social changes, medical treatments, or surgical procedures

Gender Dysphoria

Symptoms of gender dysphoria can vary widely among individuals but typically include a strong sense of discomfort or distress regarding one’s assigned gender at birth. People may experience a persistent desire to be treated as a different gender and may express dissatisfaction with their physical body, often feeling that it does not align with their gender identity. Common signs include anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation or social withdrawal. Individuals might also engage in behaviors to affirm their gender identity, such as adopting different clothing, hairstyles, or names. In some cases, there may be physical symptoms like changes in appetite or sleep disturbances due to the emotional distress associated with their gender incongruence. These symptoms can significantly impact daily functioning and overall well-being.

At Owlbridge Wellness, treatments for gender dysphoria are tailored to individual needs and include supportive psychotherapy, both individual and group counseling, to help explore gender identity and manage distress. The clinic provides hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to promote physical changes aligned with the individual's gender identity, along with assistance for social transitions, such as name and pronoun changes. While surgical procedures are not performed on-site, referrals to qualified surgeons are available, accompanied by pre-operative counseling. Additionally, the clinic offers educational resources and ongoing monitoring to ensure comprehensive care and support throughout the transition process.
